Come visit the skiing and snowmobile capital of the Midwest—Ironwood, Michigan. Located in Michigan’s western Upper Peninsula, just 18 miles south of Lake Superior, Ironwood is the westernmost city in Michigan and has an average annual snowfall of 188 inches. Snowmobile on over 2,000 miles of trails, or alpine ski at Blackjack Ski Resort, Big Powder Mountain, Mt. Zion, Indianhead Mountain, or the Whitecap Mountains.
If skiing isn’t your speed, hike through the natural landscape of waterfalls and trails in Ottawa National Forest and Gorge Falls. Visit the only ski flying hill outside of Europe: Copper Peak Ski flying hill which overlooks 2500 miles in three states.
Every year Ironwood hosts a number of events, including the SISU Ski and Snowshoe Race, and the Ironwood Snowmobile Olympus in January. Over Memorial Day weekend they have the Hurley ATV/UTV Rally. In July Ironwood hosts the North Country 100 Bicycle Tour and the Bessemer 4th of July Parade.
